OUR HISTORY
The Tentmakers Christian Mission is an interdenominational and nondenominational missionary team divinely set up to reach out and rescue the perishing souls and less privileged with the pure Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a missionary agency, we are committed to the spiritual business of winning and establishing souls for God’s kingdom. This vision is being carried out through our Rescue Mission programmes.
The missionary body, after 13 years of missionary outreach, was officially inaugurated 19th of August, 2009. Many lives have been impacted across 36 states of Nigeria and 6 other countries both in west/Central Africa. The team also work with Local Churches where they exist so as to evangelise, motivate, equip and support them for the expansion of the kingdom of God. The Rescue Mission Programmes are as follows:
MISSIONS/EVANGELISM
As believers in Christ, we are commissioned to witness in every country and to every people, group, race and culture. We are called to deliver His raw message of hope, to proclaim to the world what He’s done in us and what He can do for others.
When we focus on knowing God and making Him known, we’ll experience His glory and greatness. And we’ll also see lives and communities transformed in ways that mere human ambition never can. The team evangelise and bring sinners (people) into membership of God’s kingdom. This is achieved through personal and mass evangelism, crusade and revival programmes, publication (tracts/Christian literatures) and shooting of godly films.
DISCIPLESHIP/MENTORING
This has been the most effective means of establishing new converts. It is the intention of Christ in building a church to nurture every believer to maturity and make him a minister. The Tentmakers team is set up to raise disciples and make them godly ministers for Christ and co-labourers of the kingdom. The Tentmakers Mission Training School has raised a large number of ministers, trained and certified. The syllabus focuses on “the making of a godly minister”.
And for mentoring it’s a witness to an open life worthy of imitation-perhaps an older, experienced person “holding the ladder” for a younger colleague. It includes training and transferring of skill and knowledge. To Tentmakers Team, mentoring isn’t just a trendy word; it’s hand-on, side-by-side, walking in faith to see each other develop and grow as God has gifted us. It’s walk, not talk.
RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT
At times, a plate of food or a new pair of shoes offered in Christ’s name is worth a thousand Sermons on love and compassion. What seems little to you may be great in the eye of someone in need of love. Where some look at the need and pain in the world with despair or disinterest, the team see tremendous opportunity and privilege to serve the poor, marginalised and forgotten. We aim to be at the global forefront of relief and development.
CHURCH PLANTING
The DNA of Christ’s universal church includes the reproduction of believing communities in every nation. Thus, in everything we do, our aim and passion is to see Churches formed and self-reproducing especially in places where there are few or no churches today. Church planting is a long-haul ministry that calls for vision, commitment, flexibility, patience and sensitivity to spontaneous opportunity. The Tentmakers work with heaven-focused denominations that have a specific vision to establish new fellowships in particular areas.
There is intentional, systematic sowing of God’s word that can be as open as literature distribution, public meetings and event or more discreetly through the use of cutting edge technologies to help establish fellowship, despite cultural opposition. In order not to sow seeds among thorns, the missionary body has put in place measures of establishing the new converts by watering them for at least two months. The length of time of watering is dependent on certain crucial factors.
It must be clear in our right lobe that the Holy Spirit prepares the ground, Christ uses The Tentmakers to plant and water but God alone grows it.
SPIRITUAL WARFARE
This is the cosmic war of good versus evil; its battles are fought daily between God and Satan; between the Christian church and the worldly system ruled by our spiritual enemy; and within every child of God, between the Holy Spirit and the lust of the flesh.
We live on a perpetual battlefield…. The wars amongst the nations on the earth are mere popgun affairs compared to the fierceness in the spiritual unseen world. This invisible spiritual conflict is waged around us incessantly and unremittingly. Where the Lord works, Satan’s forces rise to hinder; where the angel begins carrying out divine directives, the devil’s rage. All this comes about because the powers of darkness press their counterattack to recapture the ground held for the glory of God.
The Tentmakers Christian Mission is likewise engaged in endless intercession and prayers for missionaries, less-privileged, churches, civil authorities, families and global missions. Our recipients and converts are also informed and trained on how to handle spiritual warfare.
